Cosmetic Dentistry/Whitening

Cosmetic dentistry concentrates on improving the appearance of a person's teeth, smile and mouth by providing elective – or desired – treatments or services.  Cosmetic procedures may also provide restorative benefits. For instance, fillings are a common procedure used to treat decayed teeth.  In the past, most dental fillings were composed primarily of gold, amalgam and other materials that left visible dark spots on the teeth.  Many people choose to have their older fillings replaced with newer, tooth-colored fillings to enhance their smile.

At Mid-City Smiles, we use such technologies as lasers in order to perform some procedures – without the need for invasive surgery or referrals to specialists. This makes cosmetic dental procedures such as smile makeovers more convenient and comfortable, and helps reduce recovery time as well.

Cosmetic dental procedures available at our office:

Teeth Whitening  is the most popular cosmetic dental procedure available to the public today.  In our office we use the one-hour, in-office Lumibrite Whitening System.  Our team is highly trained in assisting with the procedure as well as giving pre and post operative instructions so that patients may achieve the best results.  The Lumibrite system differs from ZOOM Whitening in that a plasma arch curing light is used instead of a UV curing light.  This light is much safer to patients' extra-oral areas, mainly the skin and lips. Patients also reportedly experience less sensitivity during and after the procedure with the Lumibrite system.

Lumineers  are a very popular and rather conservative cosmetic procedure available in dentistry today.  A veneer is a thin veil of porcelain which is cemented to the front surface of front teeth.  Lumineers are the most cosmetic type of veneer available. This is because no preparation or drilling of the teeth is necessary.  Lumineers are also paper thin providing a more translucent and natural appearance.  Lumineers are used to mask teeth that are misaligned, hide gaps between front teeth, and/or cover teeth that have intrinsic stain.  Lumineers may be recommended if you have gaps in your teeth or if you have not had success with teeth whitening. At Mid-City Smiles, Dr. Anderson exclusively uses Lumineers as his type of veneers.
